Volunteer attorneys provide legal representation on special education issues for parents of students with disabilities in school meetings, mediations, expulsion hearings, due process administrative hearings and federal court.

EFE is a statewide, cross-disability, comprehensive advocacy organization providing self-advocacy assistance, legal services, and education, policy and legislative advocacy, abuse investigations and oversight.

Type of engagement

Fixed Time Commitment

Time commitment

Completion of required training (if applicable & time varies) and then a minimum of 30 hours over a period of 1 week to several months.

Training and support

Volunteers without subject matter experience must complete a training (time varies depending on the complexity of the case) before volunteering. EFE attorneys provide ongoing support.

  • Training is provided and required

Acquired skills

litigation, negotiation

Skills and resources required

All attorneys are competent to handle this matter after the training provided or if attorneys have subject matter or litigation experience.
