Legal Advice Line Volunteer

CCLA operates a telephone legal advice line which helps callers identify and understand their legal issues, their legal rights and responsibilities, how to navigate the legal process, and possible resolutions. Volunteer attorneys speak to pre-screened clients during a scheduled client consultation and provide advice or brief services such as document review and, when appropriate, identify and refer cases for extended representation by pro bono attorneys.

Catholic Charities Legal Assistance provides holistic and empowering representation in the areas of family law, housing, consumer law, and criminal records through its legal advice telephone line, legal education seminars, advice desks, and legal clinics. CCLA also provides access to language interpretation and social services.

Time commitment

Time commitment is flexible after completion of the required CLE volunteer training. Legal consultations are conducted during business hours at CCLA’s office.

Training and support

CCLA provides a 6-hour CLE training (offered in two sessions) twice per year on the topics in the areas of law most commonly requested by clients. CCLA staff attorneys are present and available to answer questions and provide support and supervision.
