Advance Directives and Property Transfers (ADAPT) Pro Bono Project

Pro bono attorneys advise clients about and prepare Advance Directives and Property Transfers: Powers of Attorney for Health Care and Property, Living Wills, and TODIs (Transfer on Death Instruments). Conduct telephone interviews with clients to gather information and then meet to execute and finalize documents.

Why work with LAF?

LAF provides free legal services in civil matters to people living in poverty in metropolitan Chicago, making the legal system accessible to clients, and breaking the cycle of poverty. LAF’s successes include obtaining an order of protection against an abusive spouse, preventing an unfair eviction, or getting justice for a victim of consumer fraud.

Type of engagement

Fixed Time Commitment

Time commitment

Volunteers sign up for 3 hour shifts for client appointments. Volunteers are expected to complete one 3-hour shift per month.

Training and support

Volunteers must complete an online training which can be done from the volunteer’s office. After training, support of LAF attorneys is provided throughout duration of the case.
